About This Event
In 1730, Rajasthan witnessed one of the earliest and most powerful environmental protests in history. To protect the sacred Khejri trees from being cut down, 363 members of the Bishnoi community laid down their lives. The movement was led by Amrita Devi, who courageously embraced death rather than allow the royal orders of deforestation to destroy the trees she revered. Her sacrifice became a timeless symbol of love, resistance, and devotion to nature.
